Four Northwest Montana Athletes With Top Track Marks
Coco has best times in 1,600 and 3,200
As we approach the heart of the track season, Northwest Montana has four athletes with state-best marks. These marks are for all classes – AA, A, B and C. For high jump, Glacier High School owns the best leaps for both boys and girls. Shane Freese is tied with Libby’s Seth Wright with a leap of 6 feet 6 inches. Last year, Whitefish’s Colt Idol won the state high jump with 6-8 ¼. Glacier’s Lexy Boschee has the best jump for girls at 5-6.
Whitefish’s Drew Coco, the Class A cross country champion and Montana Gatorade Runner of the Year, owns the best times for the 3,200- and 1,600-meter races. His best time for the 1,600 is 4:30.49 and for the 3,200 is 9:56.40.
A number of athletes from the Flathead are near the top in their categories, including Flathead freshman Tess Brenneman (tied for second in girls 200 meters and second in 400 meters); Bigfork junior Kayla Carlson (best in Class A for 3,200 meters and third overall); and Whitefish senior Kaleb Prestegaard (second overall in the pole vault).
