FVCC To Host Veterans Workshop, Presentation

By Beacon Staff

The Veterans’ Center at Flathead Valley Community College invites the community to attend a free workshop, “Our Veterans, Their Transition, Practical Strategies to Assist Them,” presented by Dr. Peter Schmidt on Feb. 13.

Schmidt is a licensed mental health counselor and nationally certified counselor as well as project director and trainer for the Veterans Training Support Center of the Center for Learning Connections at Edmonds Community College in Lynnwood, Wash.

Integration and readjustment from military to civilian life and higher education can be challenging for these individuals. Workshop participants can expect an overview of the cultural transition, promising best practices, veterans’ resources and the experiences and voices of student veterans. Participants also will explore and assess their own levels of veteran cultural competence.

The presentation will be held from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. in the large community meeting room inside the Arts and Technology building on the FVCC campus. Participants should RSVP to Sherry Taylor at 756-3982 or [email protected].
