Glacier, Columbia Falls Defend State Speech and Debate Titles
Columbia Falls won its eighth championship in a row while Glacier won its third straight

It was another triumphant weekend for local teams at the state speech and debate tournaments.
Columbia Falls claimed its eighth Class A championship in a row in Havre. Billings Central was second by 23 points.
Glacier earned its third-straight Class AA championship in Butte. Flathead placed second with 125.5 points, 19 behind Glacier.
With the victory, Glacier’s Greg Adkins became the winningest AA head coach in history. Adkins has won 12 titles, nine with Flathead and three with Glacier. Anne Sullivan guided Bozeman to 11 titles between 1987 and 2002. Bozeman placed third this year with 99 points.
In Class B, Missoula Loyola won its 30th championship in a row. Bigfork placed second in speech and third in drama.
Glacier had three individual state champions — Tanner Maroney (serious interpretation), Hunter Garbacz (legislative debate) and Teesa Palmatier (original oratory). Flathead had four individual champs — Parker Kouns and Wyatt Dykhuizen (duo interpretation), Karl Boveng (humorous interpretation) and Brooke Wahlert (memorized public address).
Columbia Falls had three individual champs, including double winner Mason Gedlaman, who won in impromptu speaking and humorous oral interpretation. Allison Foust won in Lincoln Douglas debate.
Maddie Loran won a title for Bigfork in memorized public address. Olivia Witt and Camas Garnett teamed up to win in humorous duo.
