Glacier Nordic Club Kicks off Winter Season

Glacier Nordic Club is now accepting memberships for the 2013-2014 ski season. Memberships support grooming operations on the Nordic Trails at Whitefish Lake Golf Course, which opened this week, and the Big Mountain Nordic Trails at Whitefish Mountain Resort, opening Dec. 7.

Memberships may be purchased several ways – at GNC’s annual potluck dinner and auction that will be held on Dec.7, 6 p.m., at the Moose Lodge in Whitefish; by mailing in a payment and application downloaded from glaciernordicclub.com or at the Glacier Nordic Club Kiosk located at the Golf Course.

Early-bird memberships are available for purchase through Dec. 7 at $100 for a family or $50 for an individual. Memberships purchased after Dec. 7 are $110 for a family or $55 for an individual. Either a membership or a day pass is required to ski at the on the Nordic Trails at Whitefish Lake Golf Course. Day passes are available for purchase at either the Kiosk or Glacier Cyclery’s Nordic Shop; both are located at the Nordic Center at the golf course.

The Glacier Nordic Club Ski Team is taking registrations for all its junior programs. Beginning in December, the Prep Team — ages 10 to 13 — meets on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4 to 5:30 p.m. to learn and refine classic and skate ski techniques through fun games and on varied terrain. Skiers may choose to race in local and regional races. The cost is $235.

Two more programs begin in January, the Chet Hope Youth League for ages 4 to 12 and the Junior Jets for ages 7 to 11. The Chet Hope Youth League meets for seven Saturdays, beginning Jan. 11, from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. The cost is $40 for members and $45 for non-members. Junior Jets runs from Jan. 7 through early March on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4 to 5:30 p.m. Jets learn to skate and classic ski and improve their technique though fun games. The cost is $135.

Gear rentals are available for all programs. Scholarships are available for the Junior Jets and Chet Hope Youth League. All programs meet at the Glacier Nordic Center at the Whitefish Lake Golf Course, snow permitting. Glacier Nordic Club (GNC) is a 501(c)3. Its mission is to support a life-long love of cross-country skiing. GNC is supported by annual memberships, donations, and its annual potluck. Funds raised support youth ski programs and daily trail grooming.
