Glacier Park Graces Cover of Nat’l Tourism Magazine

By Beacon Staff

Glacier National Park is featured on the cover of the Discover America 2010 USA Travel Guide, the official travel and tourism organization of the United States.

And while that might seem like an obvious move for those of us in the Flathead who know how special Glacier really is, it’s pretty exciting for the park and the tourism industry in the valley.

“We are absolutely delighted that Glacier National Park is featured on this year’s guide,” Racene Friede, executive director for Glacier Country Tourism, wrote in a press release. “It seems quite fitting as Glacier is celebrating its centennial during 2010. Our region is excited about the light this will shed on one of our state’s most breathtaking treasures.”

The park’s upcoming birthday could bring in a few extra visitors this year, even more than the two million reported last year. (Where did all the people stay, though? My bet is on campgrounds and maybe with friends, but that’s just speculation from a traveler who tries do everything to wander around for as little money as possible.)

Congratulations to the park – you’re looking good for your age!
