Glacier Superintendent: Designate Park as a Wilderness

HELENA – The superintendent of Glacier National Park says the park should be formally designated as a wilderness area where new roads and other development would be prohibited.
Glacier Superintendent Chas Cartwright is scheduled to speak about the idea Tuesday evening at the Blackfoot River Brewing Company in Helena.
The proposed Northern Rockies Ecosystem Protection Act would designate more than 23 million acres as wilderness. The proposed areas include Glacier National Park.
The bill has been around since 1992 but has yet to pass. Montana's congressional delegation opposes the bill.
Cartwright says proposals to build cell phone towers in Yellowstone National Park and for new roads in Glacier show that even national parks aren't immune from development.

New roads in Glacier ? Who is proposing new roads in Glacier ? Cartwright should close the Camas Road and not let visitors exit or entrance via that road. Dig it up and reforest the entire length and dedicate the former road as testimony to man’s stupidity for ever building…
