The Glacier Symphony and Chorale will be performing the classic choral work “Messiah” at three venues across the Flathead Valley, Dec. 7 through 9. The chorale will be led by music director John Zoltek.
“Messiah” was composed in 1741 by George Frideric Handel and is normally three hours long. The one being performed in Bigfork, Whitefish and Kalispell, will be a considerably condensed version, including classics such as “And the Glory of the Load” and “Amen Chorus.” According to Zoltek, “Messiah” is a mainstay of the Christmas season, though it’s meant to be performed at Easter.
The concerts will also include a brief selection of Christmas choral pieces arranged by chorale conductor Jim Stanard.
On Friday, Dec. 7, the concert will be held at the Blessed Pope John Paul II Catholic Church in Bigfork at 7:30 p.m. The following night, it will move to the Whitefish Performing Arts Center for another 7:30 p.m. performance.
