Going-to-the-Sun Opening Weeks Away
Sun Road
It could be weeks before Glacier National Park is able to open its signature Going-to-the-Sun Road atop Logan Pass.
The road has been cleared at the pass. And crews expect the area known as Big Drift, just east of the Continental Divide could be cleared by next week. About 70 feet of snow still clogs the road in that area.
But park officials say that it takes a couple of weeks after breaking through that drift to get the road in condition that it can be opened.
Officials say snow depth is about normal, but adverse weather and avalanches are creating special problems.

This is not good news. Our tourist economy is directly attached to the Going to the Sun Road. We need it open as soon as it is possible. At least open it as far past Avalanche as is safe and reasonable.
