Governor Signs Order to Fly POW Flag Over Capitol

By Beacon Staff

HELENA — Gov. Steve Bullock has signed an executive order declaring the POW/MIA flag will fly over the state Capitol building indefinitely.

The Independent Record reports more than 60 people attended the ceremony Thursday morning.

The Montana House passed a bill recommending the state fly the POW/MIA flag at specified locations, but the bill was tabled in the state Senate last month.

Bullock told those gathered that the order was meant to honor Americans who have served as prisoners of war and to reflect on the memory of those who remain missing in action.

Vietnam veteran Bob Bell of Ronan says he’s glad to see the flag flying above the Capitol, but adds that it should have been up there a long time ago.
