The aluminum plant laid off about 125 workers in July.
Wednesday in Washington, D.C., Deputy Assistant Labor Secretary Brent Orrell said the grant will provide training and employment services to help the laid-off workers make the transition to new jobs.
The grant will be administered by the Montana Department of Labor and Industry.
Services available under the grant will include individual career counseling, occupational skills training and training for in-demand occupations such as law enforcement and nursing, as well as in trades with apprenticeship programs, such as electrical and plumbing careers.
The affected business has to apply to the Department of Labor for the grant. A lot of businesses either don’t take that step or don’t get approved for one reason or another.
