Flathead Valley Community College and the Tamarack Grief Resource Center are hosting a live video-feed of the program “Grief After Suicide: Understanding Consequences and Caring for the Survivors” on April 19.
The teleconference will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the board room inside Blake Hall on the college’s Kalispell campus. Check-in will begin at 8:30 a.m. Continuing education credits are pending for licensed clinical social workers, licensed clinical professional counselors, registered nurses, licensed addiction counselors, and educators.
This half-day session will focus on suicide’s impact on survivors and will provide information on clinical and support resources that are available after a suicide occurs. Participants will be able to identify five common themes in grief after suicide, to assess for risk factors for complicated grief responses in survivors, and to understand the benefits of various intervention options for survivors.
Presenter Dr. John Jordan is a licensed psychologist in private practice in Wellesley, Mass. and Pawtucket, R.I. He founded the Family Loss Project, a research and clinical practice providing services for bereaved families, and served as director until 2007.
