Travel to Glacier for Free Sept. 29

By Beacon Staff

National Public Lands Day is Saturday, Sept. 29 and to celebrate, the public can visit national parks for free. It is a perfect opportunity for folks to check out Glacier National Park one more time before the snow flies in the highest elevations.

“National Public Lands Day reminds all of us of the vast and diverse nature of America’s open spaces, from small neighborhood parks to large national parks, and the importance of each one,” wrote National Park Service Director Jonathan B. Jarvis in a press release. “We are fortunate that more than 600 million acres of public land, including national parks, provide all of us with cherished places where we can go to unwind, recreate, or learn.”

Even if the Going-to-the-Sun Road’s west side is closed to traffic, you can still head to Logan Pass via the east side. The drive along U.S. Highway 2, along the southern end of the park, and from St. Mary to the pass, is sure to be spectacular with the fall foliage at its peak.
