Helena Attorney to Challenge Rehberg for U.S. House Seat

By Beacon Staff

HELENA (AP) – A Helena attorney who spent years in the Montana National Guard says he plans to run for the U.S. House seat held by Republican Rep. Denny Rehberg.

Democrat Jim Hunt says he’ll hold a press conference Tuesday at Fort Harrison to launch his campaign. He declined further comment until then.

Hunt, the son of former state Supreme Court Justice William Hunt, owns a law firm and works primarily in civil law. This is his first run for public office.

Hunt grew up in Chester, graduated from high school in Helena and earned undergraduate and law degrees from the University of Montana. He also spent 23 years in the Montana Army National Guard.

Rehberg, Montana’s only representative in the U.S. House, has yet to announce officially his re-election bid, although he has been steadily raising money. So far, Hunt is his only challenger.
