High School Students Square off In Annual Boxing Event

By Beacon Staff

High school athletes from Glacier, Flathead, Columbia Falls and Bigfork will step into the ring for the fourth annual Cross-town Boxing Smoker at Flathead County Fairgrounds on Thursday, April 18.

Doors open at 5:30 p.m. and the first bout is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. inside the fairgrounds’ Trade Center. This year’s event expanded beyond Flathead and Glacier and will feature 12-15 bouts between the valley’s student athletes, according to Gregory Pisk, an organizer with the nonprofit Glacier Wrestling Association. Proceeds from the event support the high schools’ athletic departments as well as the Kalispell Wrestling Club and Evergreen Wrestling Club. In the past three years the popular event has raised over $42,000 for wrestling teams and programs.

“It’s a great fundraiser and a good community event that people have supported very well,” Pisk said. “It’s just a fun night.”

Ringside tickets are $20. General admission is $12 and student tickets are $8. Tickets can be purchased at the door or at Universal Athletics, 284 N. Meridian, Pisk Chiropractic and Physiotherapy, PC, 178 Second Ave. E. N., or Twisted Bliss Frozen Yogurt, 175 Hutton Ranch Rd.
