WEST GLACIER – Glacier National Park officials say two teenage hikers had to be airlifted to hospitals after being struck by falling rocks on a popular trail.
Park officials say they do not know the extent of the hikers’ injuries. They identified the hikers only as 13- and 19-year-old males.
According to the National Park Service, a park employee heard yelling on the Highline trail on Wednesday afternoon. Officials say the teens were struck by rocks that fell from a cliff about 100 feet above the trail.
Responding officials administered first aid as emergency responders arrived by helicopter. They took the hikers to hospitals in Whitefish and Kalispell.
Park officials say they do not know the cause of the rock fall, but the trail will remain open.
