If Education is Important, Why Not Health Care?

Congressman Denny Rehberg is doing a lot of chest-thumping about how he’s in the fight to repeal Obamacare. While thousands of Montanans suffer without access to affordable health care and health insurance, he and the GOP are using words like “socialism” and “unprecedented” to alarm their base.
What they call socialism is actually similar to something we support with our tax dollars every day: public education. America’s dedication to providing an education for every child speaks volumes for our reverence for knowledge and our commitment to stability. Even though my three children have always been homeschooled, I have willingly paid taxes for public school because I understand that the greatness of my city, state and country involves shared contributions that create opportunity and safety for all people.
I just don’t understand all the fuss. If education is so important, why should the very lives of our fellow Americans be any different?
