Kalispell Farmers Market Starts May 4 at FVCC

The Kalispell Farmers Market has found a new home at Flathead Valley Community College.

The first of the weekly markets will be held this Saturday, May 4, during the event’s usual hours of 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., according to the market’s Facebook page and a voice message that vendors have been asked to call for updates.

The Kalispell Farmers Market has traditionally been held every spring and summer Saturday at the Kalispell Center Mall’s parking lot, beginning the third Saturday of April.

But the market had to find a new location this year because the mall is planning site improvements and pavement resurfacing, making the lot unavailable. The first two markets were canceled.

Darren Banek, owner of Mountainview Gardens and a Kalispell Farmers Market board member, said the FVCC location offers restroom facilities, vendor parking and 200 vendor spots, which is more than at the mall. The college was chosen after the board looked at 15 to 18 locations altogether, Banek said.

Banek encouraged any people interested in becoming a vendor to stop by the market.

“We’re excited about the location and the visibility with the traffic that’s going to be going up and down the road,” he said.

Banek thanked the mall for a “long, good run.”

“We’re opening a new chapter and going forward,” he said.
