UPDATE: Kalispell Man Killed in Shooting ID’d
Suspect in custody while police continue investigation
A Sept. 22 shooting in Kalispell left one man dead, though as of press time on Sept. 24 no charges had been filed.

According to the Kalispell Police Department, Daniel Fredenberg, 40, of Kalispell, succumbed to multiple gunshot wounds after the incident, which took place at about 8:40 p.m. on Saturday.

A 24-year-old man was detained for questioning almost immediately after the shooting, but police do not have anyone in custody, according to Vicki Eggum, office administrator for the Flathead County Attorney’s Office.

Call records from the police department indicate multiple 911 calls at 8:38 p.m. on Sept. 22 to report gunshots and screaming on Empire Loop. The case remains under investigation, with assistance from the Montana State Crime Lab.

The case is expected to be forwarded to the county attorney’s office within the week.
