Kalispell Man Faces Charges After Hatchet Attack

By Beacon Staff

The Flathead County attorney’s office has filed two felony assault charges against a 68-year-old Kalispell man suspected of attacking another man with a hatchet and throwing a knife at a responding police officer.

Jerome Hamous was arrested after Friday’s attack, in which Kalispell police say Hamous also slit his throat with a knife. After receiving medical treatment and a psychological evaluation, Hamous was booked into the Flathead County Detention Center on Tuesday. He is scheduled to be arraigned on Sept. 2.

Police were called Friday after Hamous allegedly tried to attack a 74-year-old man with a hatchet. An investigation found the victim’s son blunted the blow of the hatchet.

The men live in the same apartment complex, but police say it’s not clear what led to the attack.
