Kalispell Man Sentenced for Pharmacy Robbery

By Beacon Staff

MISSOULA — A 34-year-old Kalispell man faces more than 15 years in federal prison for robbing an Evergreen pharmacy at gunpoint last year and forcing the pharmacist to leave the store with him.

Shawn Patrick Malarkey pleaded guilty in June to robbery involving controlled substances and the use of a firearm during a crime of violence. The Missoulian reports Malarkey was sentenced Friday by U.S. District Judge Donald Molloy in Missoula.

Prosecutors said Malarkey took $3,300 worth of the narcotic painkiller OxyContin from Evergreen Pharmacy. He forced the pharmacist to drive him away and later released him at a Kalispell church.

Malarkey was found the next day unconscious at the Whitefish train depot after taking a large amount of the drug.

Molloy recommended Malarkey begin his term in a federal prison hospital.
