Kalispell Officer Shoots Pit Bull Mix

By Beacon Staff

A Kalispell police officer shot and killed a pit bull on the city’s west side after investigators say the dog aggressively approached an officer who responded to a report of two pit bull mixes running loose.

Police Lt. Wade Rademacher says the dog is the fourth pit bull officers have shot in the past 13 months.

Officers were called about the dogs shortly after noon Wednesday.

An officer tried to get the dog into a patrol car, and also tried to get the dog into its own fenced yard, but the dog went into a neighbor’s yard.

Rademacher says the dog lowered its ears and aggressively advanced toward the officer, who shot the dog.

Rademacher says the dogs’ owner had been called to come and contain the animals, but the pit bull became aggressive before he could arrive.
