Kreck Riverwalk Trail Work Begins

By Beacon Staff

The Kreck Riverwalk Trail in Columbia Falls is the next segment of the Columbia Falls Riverwalk trail to get some volunteer attention.

On Saturday, October 18th, Task Force volunteers will be having a work day to begin work on the trail, and invite interested citizens to join them for the day, or just a few hours.

The Kreck Trail will begin at the west end of the Historic Red Bridge and follow the river bank north to the Cedar Pointe Subdivision on South Nucleus. The trail will be a natural walking path, mostly gravel with natural boulder edging, and will hug the high-water mark, giving users a true river experience, and ensuring a limited impact on the viewshed and the riverbank.

This trail was made possible by the generous donation of a long easement across the property of Dr. Loren Kreck.

On the 18th, the group will be doing basic clean up work – clearing brush, picking up trash, and laying out the path for the trail. Once this part of the effort is complete, the First Best Place Task Force plans to seek donations of materials and equipment to do the necessary trail improvements. Fundraising efforts will take place to pay for the portions of the work that are not donated.

The group will be meeting at end of the bridge at 8am on the 18th and working as long as it takes to get it done. They ask that volunteers wear sturdy clothing appropriate for the weather, bring work gloves, a water bottle and any brush-clearing tools volunteers might have for use that day.
