Lawmakers Propose Stimulus Oversight Committee
2009 Legislative Session
HELENA – The president of the Montana Senate is proposing the creation of a special committee of lawmakers and others to oversee how federal stimulus money is spent in the state.

Republican Sen. Bob Story of Park City says everyone should be interested in seeing such money used efficiently and effectively.

Senate Minority Leader Carol Williams of Missoula wants to set up a procedure by which lawmakers can help direct how the money is spent. She says she wants to make sure the Legislature is a partner in deciding which projects will be funded.

Incoming President Barack Obama has said his priority is enacting an economic stimulus package to fund billions of dollars of building projects across the country to create jobs and help move the economy out of recession.
