LETTER: Fighting for Our Nation’s Health

By Beacon Staff

Have you noticed, lately, just within our own country the number of controversies, sensible and non-sensible hearings on Capitol Hill, protests and outright outrage among “We The People” on things important to our nation’s health?

Look at just these:

(1) “Citizens United’s” faltering stand on “corporations are people.” Los Angeles just joined 175 other cities in the national push for a constitutional amendment overturning the 2010 Supreme Court ruling that “corporations are people” and 76.6 percent of LA voters supported this amendment.

(2) Jamie Dimon, JP Morgan Chase’s CEO, fighting to hold his job because of unethical corporate practices.

(3) Our IRS official taking the fifth when being quizzed and investigated.

(4) Apple’s CEO, Tim Cook, being grilled in Capitol Hill hearings on Apple’s tremendously profitable corporate tax dodges.

The only point I’m making is this: There is a powerful movement in America today, coming from “We The People,” which is bringing to the surface many of the past destructive, unethical and poorly designed policies and practices that are so cancerous to America’s health and well being. Many very wise and thoughtful people in America (Bill Moyers comes to mind) are speaking out intelligently and provocatively on all this.

“We The People” are to wake up and be the driving energy and power for change in our communities, in our states, in our nation.
