Lighthouse Christian Basketball Team Wins Special Olympics Title

By Beacon Staff

The Lighthouse Christian Home experienced one of those thrilling and unforgettable moments at the Montana Special Olympics State Basketball Tournament in Great Falls last month.

The local nonprofit organization that serves adults with developmental disabilities organized a talented team that brought home the state championship in late November. The local squad achieved a 24-22 victory over the Southeastern Bandits from Miles City after Ryan Trout heaved the game-winning shot in the final seconds.

“This championship is a combination of the residents’ desire to win and the teaching and patience from coach (Kirk) Taylor and staff,” Shirley Willis, executive director of Lighthouse Christian, said.

“Our volunteers are the blessings to the residents and the community as we brought home the gold medallions that now hang with pride in each of the resident’s room.”
