Man Involved in Standoff Faces Murder Charge

By Beacon Staff

POLSON – A man arrested after a 48-hour standoff with law enforcement officers was arraigned Tuesday in Lake County on charges of deliberate homicide stemming from the shooting death of his father.

Ross Johnson, 20, was arrested Monday night at his parents’ home near Polson after authorities subdued him with a stun gun. He had been barricaded there since Saturday — the same day his father, 47-year-old Roger Johnson, was found dead along the Thompson River northeast of Thompson Falls.

The standoff included negotiations and tear gas. The two dozen or so neighbors who were evacuated were allowed back into their homes late Monday.

The younger Johnson was being held Tuesday in the Sanders County jail on $1 million bail, Sheriff Gene Arnold said.
