Man Suspected in Butte Pedestrian Death Arrested in Kalispell

By Beacon Staff

A man suspected in the death of a Butte pedestrian last fall has been arrested in Kalispell, along with his brother.

Law enforcement officers in Butte were granted an arrest warrant Wednesday for 27-year-old Lucas Hundley on a charge of negligent vehicular homicide while under the influence. Prosecutors allege he was impaired by drugs or alcohol when he struck and killed 77-year-old John Hellander, who was crossing the road near the Butte Civic Center on Oct. 18.

A Butte bail bondsman tipped Kalispell police to Hundley’s possible location on Thursday. He and his younger brother were located outside.

Samuel Hundley was arrested on warrants with bail totaling $115,000.

Kalispell police say Lucas Hundley initially fled, but a U.S. Border Patrol dog tracked him to a garage where he was hiding.
