Martin City’s Post Office Won’t Reopen

By Beacon Staff

KALISPELL (AP) – The northwestern Montana town of Martin City will not be getting its post office back.

Instead, the U.S. Postal Service will put up clusters of mailboxes for people who want their mail delivered to Martin City. Otherwise, residents will get their mail in Hungry Horse, about a mile away.

The contractor who had been running the post office quit at the end of September, saying she hadn’t received a raise in seven years and wasn’t getting paid enough.

Postal officials couldn’t find another contractor and the post office boxes were moved to Hungry Horse.

About 235 people got their mail at the Martin City post office. Martin City does not have home delivery of mail.
