Missoula Man Accused of Illegally Supplying Marijuana Shops

By Beacon Staff

MISSOULA – A 31-year-old Missoula man is facing federal drug charges for allegedly supplying local medical marijuana dispensaries with pot bought on the black market in California.

Richard J. Biggs was arrested May 12 after an investigation by drug task force officers in Missoula and Great Falls. Authorities arrested him on Interstate 90 on his way back from a four-day trip to Humboldt County, Calif., and found 74 pounds of marijuana and $39,500 in hundred-dollar bills.

A search of his vehicle turned up four duffel bags containing about 20 different strains of marijuana. Authorities also found 9 pounds of marijuana at Biggs’ home.

Charging records from District Court in Missoula, where the case was initially filed, say the marijuana strains found in Biggs’ possession match up with strains available at several Missoula area dispensaries.

Biggs’ has denied charges of conspiracy to distribute and possession with intent to distribute marijuana.
