Montana Unemployment Drops in January

HELENA – The state Department of Labor says Montana's unemployment rate dropped a little after a spike in December.

The January unemployment rate was 3.2 percent. That compares to 3.6 percent in December — which was the highest level since 2005.

The national unemployment rate for January 2008 was 4.9 percent.

Labor Commissioner Keith Kelly says he believes Montana's decrease in unemployment rates indicates the state might not be feeling the impacts of national economic instability

He says the state economy is growing and adding workers.
