Montana Western Adding Cross-Country Program

By Beacon Staff

DILLON — The University of Montana Western athletic department has announced the school is adding cross country as a sport starting with the 2014-15 school year.

Interim athletic director Janelle Handlos said Friday the school will begin the process by hiring a head coach, who will begin recruiting men’s and women’s athletes. Handlos expects 10 to 15 athletes on both the men’s and women’s rosters.

Montana Western Chancellor Richard Storey says the decision will continue to bolster the athletic program and the school’s enrollment.

Six Frontier Conference schools already have men’s and women’s cross country programs, including Carroll College, Rocky Mountain and the University of Great Falls in Montana.
