Nader Qualifies for Montana Ballot

By Beacon Staff

HELENA – Montana election officials say Ralph Nader is now qualified to appear on the ballot in November as a candidate for president.

Secretary of State Brad Johnson says Nader supporters gathered enough signatures for him to qualify as an independent presidential candidate.

Independent candidates qualify for the ballot by gathering at least 5,000 signatures. Johnson’s office says that Nader and running mate Matt Gonzalez turned in 6,604 signatures.

Nader has previously run as a Green Party candidate.

Nationally, Nader and fellow third-party candidate Libertarian Bob Barr are getting less than 5 percent support in polls. Barr is also likely appearing on the ballot in Montana.
