New Program Launches at Elrod Elementary for Inspiring Dads
The program is part of a nationwide initiative established by the National Center for Fathering
Last week nearly 150 dads, uncles and grandfathers converged on Elrod Elementary School in Kalispell for the launch of the state’s first Watch D.O.G.S. program.

The program is part of a nationwide initiative established by the National Center for Fathering to increase male involvement in children’s lives. The Watch D.O.G.S. (Dads of Great Students) was created in 1998 at George Elementary School in Springdale, Ark. Since its launch the program has spread to more than 3,721 schools in 46 states. Elrod Principal Glenda Armstrong worked with the program in Idaho before moving to Kalispell, and helped launch the local program, which has already attracted 145 dads, uncles and grandfathers. The number of male teachers has been steadily declining in recent years, according to the nationwide program, and the goal is to provide positive male role models to students.

For more information on the program or to sign up, contact 751-3700, or visit www.fathers.com/watchdogs.
