Northwestern A Tournament Games Rescheduled

By Beacon Staff

The Northwestern A divisional basketball tournaments in Kalispell were postponed Friday and games were bumped back a day due to severe winter weather that is preventing Frenchtown’s teams from traveling.

School administrators released a revised schedule after all of Friday’s games were postponed amid a severe blizzard across Western Montana.

Here’s the revised schedule:

Saturday
Columbia Falls girls vs. Polson, 3 p.m.
Polson boys vs. Columbia Falls, 4:30 p.m.
Frenchtown girls vs. Libby, 6 p.m.
Frenchtown boys vs. Whitefish, 7:30 p.m
Sunday
Girls consolation, 3 p.m.
Boys consolation, 4:30 p.m.
Girls championship, 6 p.m.
Boys championship, 7:30 p.m.

The Montana High School Association gave teams permission to play Sunday, according to executive director Mark Beckman.

“We want everybody to be safe,” he said.

The other tournaments across the state, including the Western B divisional in Hamilton, are expected to continue. All Class AA games except tonight’s crosstown matches between Glacier and Flathead are being postponed until Monday and Tuesday. The Glacier girls play at Flathead tonight at 6 p.m. and the boys square off at 8 p.m.

A major blizzard is pummeling Western and Northwestern Montana, with dangerous winds and drifting snowfall being reported. The University of Montana, all Missoula County public schools and many other regional schools, including Columbia Falls, are closed Friday based on the weather and a forecast that includes a blizzard warning stretching from Glacier National Park to south of Hamilton.

The blizzard conditions are expected to continue until at least 11 a.m. Saturday, according to the National Weather Service.
