Pass Sales Visit Downtown

By Beacon Staff

Four months after the usual deadline, Whitefish Mountain Resort is still selling their season pass at the spring sale rate. The company is also making it more convenient to buy and pick up passes.

The company at Big Mountain has typically offered discounted rates on their season passes only until mid-May, but this year extended the sale through the end of September in honor of its 60th anniversary. “Pass sales are going well,” says Donnie Clapp, spokesperson for Whitefish Mountain Resort. “Traditionally, we sell 90 percent in the two days before the deadline. People are online at 11:59 p.m. still purchasing season passes.” Clapp also says that if extending the pass sale later helps more people afford season passes, the resort may continue to extend the sale in future years.

To help alleviate the month-end last minute rush and to make picking up new season passes more convenient, resort staff will be at Whitefish Coffee Traders from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. on Sept. 21, 22, 28, and 29. “We’ll buy a cup of coffee for anyone who buys a pass,” laughs Clapp. You can also purchase and pick up passes at The Wave on Sept. 26 from 4 – 8 p.m. Skiers and riders can also purchase lesson programs, lockers, and seasonal rentals at those outlets, too. “If you’re planning on skiing 12 days or more, a season pass is your best deal right now,” Clapp notes.

Until the end of September, season pass sale rates knock off 48 – 60%. Sale rates for adult passes (ages 19-64) are $499, senior (ages 65-79) and full-time college student passes are $399, youth passes (ages 13-18) are $249, and junior passes (ages 7-12) $129. Super seniors (ages 80 and above) and tots (6 or younger) will get a free season pass. A pass holder’s age on opening day, Dec. 8, determines his or her age group.

This year, the winter season will run from December 8 to April 6. Traditional opening has been Thanksgiving, but the resort bumped its opening date later to allocate grooming and snowmaking resources to the park and pipe while letting natural snowfall assist with a better ski product for opening. “But if it dumps two weeks before, we’ll open,” Clapp says.
