Places: Foys Lake

By Beacon Staff

Just minutes from downtown Kalispell, the public beach at Foys Lake is the perfect spot for a quick getaway and quick swim.

A large dock horseshoes from the bank allowing ample space for sunbathers and swimmers to enjoy the summer heat before cooling down. The lake is shallow enough to keep the temperatures much warmer, already reaching around 60 degrees, than Whitefish and Flathead lakes. A roped off swimming area creates a safe barrier from the passing boats.

The rock and sand beach provides plenty of space for picnicking while a boat ramp on the west side of the dock is maintained, providing relatively easy access to boaters, water skiers and tubers.

The area can get crowded during the hottest hours of the day so take advantage of the early morning and evening hours to enjoy the silky glass-like stillness of the water – a perfect time for canoes.

How to get there:
From downtown Kalispell, travel west on U.S. Highway 2 (West Idaho Street). Turn south on South Meridian Road. At the intersection with Seventh Street West, veer west and continue on Foys Lake Road. Follow the road past the entrance to Lone Pine State Park. Lake access is on the west side of the road.
