Plow Crews Making Progress on Glacier's Going-to-the-Sun Road

The snow plows are hard at work in Glacier National Park clearing the iconic Going-to-the-Sun Road before the flood of summer tourists.

Crews have made progress despite rugged conditions. On April 12, the road crew was stopped before Two Medicine due to a storm that dumped heavy snow in the Hudson Bay District. Crews are now approaching Haystack Creek. The National Park Service has created a website updating the plows’ progress, with a detailed map and great photos taken by staff.

The 50-mile stretch up to Logan Pass is slated to open June 21, but that’s largely dependent on weather. Thanks to funds from the Glacier National Park Conservancy and salary savings from unanticipated personnel changes, Glacier Park avoided a delayed opening of its main thoroughfare due to the recent sequestration.
