Police Blotter: Weird Lights and Rare Bear

5:55 a.m. Someone called in to report an ominous light near Siskin Trail. The light, according to the caller, was alternating between dim and bright. Upon investigation deputies could find nothing out of the ordinary.

6:08 a.m. A gas cap was broken and gas was stolen from a vehicle on Plum Creek property.

8:33 a.m. A U-Haul reported stolen out of Spokane was found at a Columbia Falls storage unit sight.

1:47 p.m. A 16-year-old male was arrested after he hit and then choked his sister.

1:55 p.m. There was a group of obnoxious wood-cutters hollering at and blocking traffic on Tally Lake Road.

4:24 p.m. Bird feeders, initially thought to be vandalized by a human, turned out to be damaged by a bear.

6 p.m. An industrial kitchen mixer, two meat smokers and a rototiller were stolen from a storage unit on U.S. Highway 2.

6:56 p.m. A woman’s boyfriend was spinning his car tires in her driveway.

7:24 p.m. A woman at a four-way stop in Kalispell called authorities to report that she witnessed a man slapping a woman.

9:02 p.m. Someone called in to report that they found an unattended baby stroller nearly a mile up Swan River Trail. The owner of the stroller was found in the parking lot.

11:18 p.m. Someone called in to report a black vehicle in an Evergreen parking lot that smelled like marijuana smoke. The owner of the vehicle turned out to be an employee at a nearby box store. The pot smell was unfounded.

11:39 p.m. An albino bear cub in Columbia Falls was rummaging through garbage and pulling it toward the river.

The departments responded to 188 calls for service.
