Police Blotter: Hyundai-Driving Shoplifters and Topless Sunbather

6:36 a.m. A 15-year-old girl was hitting her mom.

9:27 a.m. During an open house in Lakeside last Saturday a camera was stolen from a purse.

10:56 a.m. Drills and wrenches were reported stolen from a workshop in Whitefish.

12:34 p.m. Someone called a second-hand store in Evergreen and told them to be on the lookout for shoplifters driving a black Hyundai. The Hyundai showed up and a man was taken to jail.

12:45 p.m. A caller representing a homeowners’ association called in to ask what should be done about a topless woman who was sunbathing. The caller was referred to the county attorney.

12:47 p.m. A man on Bluegrass Drive called in to report that someone stole the hood ornament off his car.

1:46 p.m. Someone thought a young man on a bike carrying a folder was suspicious. He was going door-to-door claiming to sell educational material. He also had a thick accent.

2:52 p.m. An Evergreen surplus store is missing a pair of new shoes. The person who took the shoes was kind enough to leave their old ones behind.

5:38 p.m. The animal warden set a trap in Columbia Falls.

7:42 p.m. Two young women who claimed not to speak any English were taken into custody on suspicion of shoplifting.

9:15 p.m. A man called in to report that his garage light was on.

10:16 p.m. A woman at a Blaine View Lane residence in Kalispell reported that a young man was breathing heavily and banging on her front door. He turned out to be her brother’s friend.

1:29 a.m. Two vans were playing “bumper cars.” It turned out that one of the vans stalled.

The departments responded to 144 calls for service.
