Police: Medical Marijuana at Center of Kalispell Homicide

By Beacon Staff

Kalispell police have arrested two men in the beating death of a 49-year-old man whose body was dumped in the woods southwest of Kalispell.

Investigators believe the death happened during the course of a robbery at Wesley Collins’ apartment, where the three men had been sharing medical marijuana. Police Chief Roger Nasset says it appears a medical marijuana card holder was providing marijuana to the others. He would not say who the card holder was.

Detective Wade Rademacher says Collins was reported missing on Thursday or Friday and on Saturday, officers received a report that Collins’ apartment had been burglarized.

While two burglary suspects were being interviewed Saturday afternoon, Rademacher says they told police about the homicide and location of the body. Two Flathead Valley residents, 21-year-old Robert Lake and 19-year-old Jeffrey Nixon, were arrested in connection with the killing.

The motives surrounding the crime are still under investigation. But, according to a statement from KPD, investigators believe “the homicide happened during the course of a robbery in which medical marijuana was being shared by three individuals” and it “appeared that a medical marijuana card holder was providing marijuana to the other individuals.”

The investigation is ongoing. And Collins’ body will be transported to the Montana State Crime Lab for an autopsy.
