Pond Hockey Classic Needs Volunteers

By Beacon Staff

The inaugural Montana Pond Hockey Classic is shaping up to be a very exciting event, attracting nearly 400 players on 50 teams from around the western U.S. and Canada. The puck drops on Foys Lake, Feb. 21.

Organizers are seeking volunteers with some basic hockey background to serve as rink monitors Friday, Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 21 – 23. Rink monitors are responsible for keeping track of the score for each game and making sure rules are being followed for good sportsmanship.

Volunteer shifts are available Friday morning and afternoon, Saturday morning and afternoon and Sunday, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday is the most critical need, according to organizers.

Help is also needed with event set-up at Foys Lake, Thursday, Feb. 20, from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. In addition, organizers can use a few experienced beer pourers Friday through Sunday.

Volunteers who work at least a five-hour shift will receive a complimentary lunch, parking pass and a free ticket ($20 value) to “Hockey Night in Montana,” Saturday, Feb. 22, 6 p.m. at the Hilton Garden Inn. The Stanley Cup will be on display at Hockey Night and there will be skill competitions, food, drink and raffles, all to benefit youth hockey in the Flathead Valley.
