Rehberg Drafts Wolf Legislation, Seeks Comments

Congressman Denny Rehberg has drafted legislation to remove the gray wolf from the Endangered Species list in Montana and Idaho. Rehberg is soliciting public comments before officially submitting the bill. It’s pretty straightforward and calls for both states to “have exclusive jurisdiction over the management of Rocky Mountain gray wolves within the borders of that State.”
In July, just days before a federal judge reinstated protections for wolves in Montana and Idaho, Texas Democratic Congressman Chet Edwards introduced a resolution that would prohibit wolves from being considered a threatened species. That legislation, which Rehberg said he would cosponsor, hasn’t moved out of committee.
