Rehberg, Tester Bring Notable East Coast Politicians on Campaign Trail

By Beacon Staff

Both Sen. Jon Tester and Rep. Denny Rehberg are bringing notable East Coast political figures along with them on the campaign trail as the November election draws near. The U.S. Senate race between incumbent Tester and Rehberg is considered one of the most competitive and important in the nation.

On Tuesday, Virginia Sen. Jim Webb joined Tester at a campaign rally in Helena, with Webb praising his colleague for his work with veterans. Webb and Tester both won elections in 2006 to help give Democrats control of the Senate.

“Jon Tester is someone who knows what the average Montanan is going through,” Webb said at the rally, according to the Associated Press. “He will say the same thing in the Democratic caucus as he will on the Senate floor as he will to you here today.”

Meanwhile, New Jersey Republican Gov. Chris Christie will join Rehberg in Billings on Friday at a fundraising reception. Christie was the keynote speaker at the Republican National Convention in late August.

“We’re excited to have Governor Christie join us in Montana to support Denny as we enter the home stretch in this critical Senate race,” Rehberg campaign spokesman Chris Bond said in a statement. “Like Denny, Chris Christie knows that to create jobs and get our economy back on track, we’ve got to get Washington’s excessive taxes, spending and red tape off the backs of our job creators, and that’s what this election is all about.”
