RGA Outraises DGA

Despite the Democratic Governors Association record-breaking haul of $11.6 million through the first half of the year, its rivals at the Republican Governors Association announced this week that it had raised more – $12.2 million.

Montana Gov. Brian Schweitzer is chairman of the DGA, and he has his work cut out for him in retaining the two governors’ seats on the line this November in Virginia and New Jersey. In 2010, 37 governorships are on the line.

"The RGA's ability to outraise the Democrats despite their control of the White House, Congress and majority of governorships, proves that more people than ever believe a Republican comeback begins with the 39 governors' races that are taking place over the next two years," said RGA Executive Director Nick Ayers in a statement.

Schweitzer called the DGA’s fundraising efforts “extraordinary:”

“These results are even more impressive given the difficult fund-raising climate, and builds on the strong foundation we have already laid to protect our majority,” said DGA chairman and Montana Gov. Brian Schweitzer.
