Roberts Achieves Undefeated Wrestling Season, Wins Third Championship

Shonn Roberts achieved a rarefied form of greatness last weekend.

The Columbia Falls junior won his third consecutive wrestling state championship and capped his remarkable season at 39-0. Roberts won by decision, 6-0, over Ethan Graves of Sidney in the final bout of the 126-pound division at the Class A state wrestling tournament in Billings. It marked the third championship trophy for the Mat Cat standout; he won the 98-pound title as a freshman and 112-pound championship last year.

Columbia Falls placed third as a team with 172 points. Havre won its second straight championship with 294.5 points. Sidney placed second with 268.

Columbia Falls’ Bryan Shaffer placed second in the 152-pound division. Cody Walters (160) and Spencer Ross (285) both earned third place. Winfield West (106) and Mason Fetters (113) both placed fourth, Zayne Brunz (145) was fifth and Manny Guzman (98) was sixth.

Garret Chapel of Libby won the title in the 170-pound division. Zach Crace (138) was third and Skyler Higareda (132) was fifth. Libby/Troy earned 12th as a team with 61 points.

For Polson, Tel Motichka (170) and Carlos Quinones (126) both placed fourth. Jaron Morgan (113) and Thunder Morales (106) each earned fifth and Tele Seemann (182) and Isaiah Williams (220) both were sixth. The Pirates placed 10th as a team with 73 points.

In Class AA, Glacier finished 10th as a team with 79 points. Flathead was 11th with 77.5. Great Falls won with 353.5 points and Bozeman was second, 225. Billings Skyview placed third, 207.

Glacier’s Tanner Stupack (170) placed third, Justin Gibson (98) and Cody Decker (126) both placed fifth and Zach Dennehy (285) earned sixth.

Flathead’s Hunter Rush (98) and Axel Bladholm (285) both placed fourth and Cody Devall (98) and Cameron Mantel (152) were both sixth.
