Salish Kootenai College Names Next President

By Beacon Staff

PABLO — Salish Kootenai College has chosen a Bureau of Indian Affairs employee as its next president.

The Missoulian reports the college’s board of directors on Wednesday named Robert DePoe III to lead the tribal college.

DePoe grew up in Ronan and is a member of the Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes. He replaces Luana Ross, who resigned in October, saying she and some board members had irreconcilable visions.

DePoe’s experience includes serving as education director for the Paiute Tribe of Utah from 2003 to 2010.

The other finalists were Steve Dupuis, who heads the college’s Indigenous Math and Science Institute, and Sandra Boham, who is pursuing a doctorate in education at the University of Montana.
