Schweitzer Again Tops Brown in Fundraising

By Beacon Staff

HELENA – Reports released Monday show Gov. Brian Schweitzer again topped challenger Roy Brown in campaign fundraising.

Schweitzer, the Democrat incumbent, reported raising just under $200,000 from Jan. 1 to March 5. Brown, a state senator from Billings, reported raising close to $75,000.

Schweitzer said he finished the reporting period with more than $900,000 in the bank, and the campaign said it had raised a total of $1.2 million so far.

Brown, who entered the race in November, has raised about $200,000 total and reported that most of it was still in the bank.

Brown has been critical of the way Schweitzer has decided to spend state money.

Schweitzer’s message has touted accomplishments like the property tax rebates and a strong economy.
