Schweitzers Pay No Federal Income Tax

HELENA – Gov. Brian Schweitzer and his wife, Nancy, paid no federal income taxes and $1,252 in state income taxes for 2009.

In 2009, the Schweitzers reported his $91,591 salary as governor, plus $7,324 in taxable interest and $1,607 in ordinary dividends.

They reported a $25,000 farm rental loss, a $3,000 capital loss, $35,092 in itemized deductions and $18,250 in exemptions for themselves and their three children, all of whom are attending college. Their adjusted gross income was $72,522, down from $256,000 in 2008.

The Schweitzers received a $14,765 federal refund in 2009, which included $3,646 in refundable tax credits.

The governor released copies of the couple’s 2009 tax returns on Thursday.
