Search for Missing Man Narrows in Glacier Park

By Beacon Staff

GLACIER NATIONAL PARK – Authorities have found a fishing pole believed to belong to a Hungry Horse man missing since he took an afternoon fishing trip to Glacier National Park.

Divers, a helicopter and police with rescue dogs have searched the area around Lake McDonald and Upper McDonald Creek since Tuesday night, when Michael William Sloan was reported missing.

Park officials said Thursday the search has been narrowed to the head of Lake McDonald after divers found a fishing pole where the creek empties into the lake.

Officials say the banks there are steep, the current is strong and the water is about 57 degrees.

Sonar is being used to scan the lake’s bottom, with members of the Flathead County Dive Team standing by.
