Second-Ranked Bravettes Tapping into Winning Potential

By Beacon Staff

The Flathead volleyball team is tapping into its potential as one of the best teams in the state.

The Bravettes (7-2 overall, 3-0 in conference) have jumped into second place in the latest Montana Class AA Volleyball Power Poll released Monday. Glacier (7-3, 2-1) remains ranked fourth. Undefeated Billings Senior (14-0, 2-0) maintains the top ranking.

Since losing out in three matches at the Great Falls Invitational earlier this month the Bravettes have dropped only one set in four matches. Flathead is now atop the Western AA standings after dominating Great Falls C.M. Russell, Helena, fifth-ranked Helena Capital and Missoula Sentinel in the last week. Flathead hosts Missoula Hellgate tonight.

The Bravettes lead the state in assists per set (10.70) and aces (36). Glacier is second in aces (30). Flathead is second in the state for kills per set behind Senior.

Flathead senior Emily Russell leads the state in ace serves with 14. The next closest player, teammate Emma Andrews, has eight. Flathead senior Cassie Krueger is third in the state in kills with 46. Glacier senior Tiffany Marks has 39 kills, fourth most in Montana, and is ranked second in the West in efficiency behind Krueger. Glacier’s Cassi Hashley has 13 blocks this season, tied for fourth most. She’s ranked second in the West in blocks per set with 1.30. Flathead junior Sarah Risenhoover is ranked third in the West, 1.20. For digs, Glacier senior Kailea Vaudt is ranked third in the West with 3.70 per set. She has 37 total. Junior Emma Andrews leads Flathead with 3.20 per set, sixth best in conference. For passing, Glacier senior Jessica Stenberg is ranked first in serve-receive accuracy. Vaudt is ranked second. Junior Iris Matulevich from Flathead is ranked fourth.

This year’s cross-town match between Flathead and Glacier should be a great one. The first meeting is Saturday, Sept. 22 at 2 p.m. at Glacier. The teams’ second meeting is Oct. 4 at 7 p.m. at Flathead.

A very big thanks goes to Brent and Marti Edgmond who compile all the stats and rankings throughout the season.
